Neither rain, nor snow, nor.................

This photo was taken by our English friend, Carol, during the "snowstorm of the century" in England. Most of the roads were closed and the trains and buses were not running but this postman managed to make his deliveries on his bike!

USA Wines

We were pouring New York State wines at the Wine and Cheese Show this past weekend. It was amazing the number of people who did not know that NY produces wines even though it is the 4th largest producer of wine in the USA behind California, Washington and Oregon. Could this have anything to do with the LCBO? In the words of Sarah Palin, "you betcha"!

Tasty Tasting Menu!

We were at Cave Spring Winery in Jordan at 11:00 this morning for a tasting of red wines matched with food. A 2007 and 2005 Gamay were served with poached baby pear and blue cheese. The beef tenderloin was served with a 2007 Pinot Noir. A lamb "cottage pie" was matched with a 2006 Cabernet Franc Estate. To top things off, we had a chocolate, almond bark with highly rendered bacon pieces. Sounds strange but it was very tasty with the sweetness of the chocolate and the saltiness of the bacon. This was served with a 2006 Cabernet Franc and a 2002 Cab-Merlot.

Wall of Art

Black & White prints of Steve Elphick's photographs are on display at Tawse Winery. I took some photographer's licence and "solarized" the prints using Photoshop to add some colour with apologies to Steve.

French Oak

Alvento Winery in Jordan had a fabulous open house last weekend. They had 8 different wines to try and 2 barrel samples. Included in the tasting was a 2006 Nebbiolo. This is only the second winery in Niagara to produce this wine. There was some wonderful food prepared by Chef Erik Peacock of Wellington Court Restaurant. The above shows a portion of a French Oak Wine Barrel used by Alvento.
