Disaster in New Zealand

This is the tower of Christchurch Cathedral in New Zealand. The city was struck by a massive earthquake a few days ago. The cathedral is now in ruins. Photo taken on our NZ trip in 2006.

Napier, New Zealand

Fellow wine club members, Tom and Bonny, are in Napier, NZ right now so I thought I would post a photo of when we visited there. This is one of the art deco buildings Napier & Hastings are noted for.

This was taken in Wellington, New Zeland. The top of hill gives a great view of Wellington Harbour.

I found this photo while reviewing my photos of New Zealand. For some reason I never put it in my final album of NZ shots. I recently posted this on my Flickr site and it's already received 42 hits.

Memories of New Zealand

Friends of ours are visiting New Zealand for a few months. It made me have a look at some of my photos that I hadn't edited. I found this one of a colourful phone box in Christchurch. The cathedral is in the background.

Rippon Vineyard

I was looking at one of the photos I took in New Zealand and wondered what it would look like in sepia. This was taken from a cruise ship on Milford Sound, South Island.

New Zealand Dreamin'

With the long, cold winter in Niagara, we can always think of being in a warmer place. It's late summer in New Zealand right now and only a plane trip away (actually two because you have to get to Vancouver first!). The above NZ vineyard photo was actually taken in the fall. The grapes have just started to shrivel.

Another New Zealand photo. This was taken just outside of Wanaka, South Island, NZ. A warming filter was used in Photoshop to enhance the colour of the sky.

Punting on the Avon (Christchurch, New Zealand)

I was informed recently that this photo has been listed in the fourth edition of the Schmap Christchurch Guide. I won't get any compensation but I'll get credit and my photo will be widely distributed.

Autumn Rose

This rose was taken in April, 2006. The seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere so this is an "autumn rose".

Church on Lake Tekapo, New Zealand

I'm getting very close to uploading my New Zealand photos to Flikr. While reviewing my pictures I came across this shot of the Church of the Good Shepherd on the shore of Lake Tekapo.

Saying Goodbye to New Zealand

One year ago today we were on our way back home from a fantastic month in New Zealand. The above is a panoramic view of Lake Tekapo. This was done by taking two side-by-side photos and merging the two in PhotoShop.

Lake Wanaka Morning

One year ago today we were staying just outside of Wanaka, New Zealand. The previous evening I photographed the sunset over Lake Wanaka and wanted to get an early morning shot. I tried to wait for the clouds to lift to show the mountains better but, unfortunately, we had to get back on the road.

Rippon Vineyards

Rippon is said to be one of the world's most beautiful settings for a winery and probably the most photographed. It's on Lake Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand. Photographs of the Rippon Vineyards have been found on other wineries' labels!

Contest Finalist

I just found out that this photo of a view from Mount Te Mata, New Zealand is 1 of 25 final photographs chosen in the 2007 Henry's Photo Contest. This was taken with a Nikon D70 without any retouching. All finalists' photos will be displayed at the Photographic & Digital Imaging Show held in Mississauga, Ontario in May.
