Sawmill on Konkle Road
One of my favourite buildings is on Konkle Road in Beamsville. The sun was just going down but the photo wasn't that interesting so it needed a little tweaking in PhotoShop Elements. I'm told by a viewer that this is an old sawmill.
I must make a comment..as beautiful as this picture is...this isnt a barn...its a old saw mill..I know this because I pratically grew up on this farm. I used to visit my grandma on this farm and I know it very well. The barns is behind the house...as well as the chicken coup. The storage areas for tractors and stuff are beside the house as u come into the drive way. This saw mill is up to the right asu come into the driveway. You can see it from one of the kitchen windows. I used to think there were monsters in it..lol and i was forbidden to go in it as it was falling down but I do rememebr when i was a small child that it still ran...as I got older they stopped the saw mill. They also took the actually machine and put it in a museum. I have many, many great memories of this farm. I played in the barn..even though I wasntsuppose to because of the cattle..lol..i caught lots of frogs, turtles and toads...and went egg picking...although Id get in trouble from ..my grandfather for bothering the chickens lol..anyways I adore your website...lots of great pictues of lot of familar places in Ontario. Good job!!
ReplyDeleteIts me again...I wanted to say I love photgraphy and because something from my past is on here yoou made my day...it makes me sad as my grandparents are no longer on the farm...grandfather is in a home and grandmother is dying of
ReplyDeletecancer...but this made it a little better. Thanks so much. Oh and my nickname sunshine_toad...is just part of me because my grandmothers nickname for me is toad....i added the sunshine part...and all the neighbours around konkle rd., all her friends know me as toad...to this day even LOL.
oohhh forgot, my grandparents used to sell their grapes to wineries...one in London, Ontario. I remember vidly because it was a very busy time of year... they had Niagaras, Concords, Agawams and Delawares.. they used to pick by hand...put later had a picker come in, which of course made the job way faster!! Just thought you'd like to know since you are a wine lover..:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the photo and that it brought back lots of memories. where do you live now? Still in the area? Thanks for pointing that out to me about it being a sawmill. I'll have to do some research.
