Happy Anniverary

Sue's sister and brother-in-law will celebrate their 50th Anniversary this December. Since they will be in Florida at that time, we had an Anniversary dinner for them yesterday. They didn't want any fuss or gifts but their daughter ordered this special piece of cheesecake from the Keg for them!

New Flash

I recently purchased a new flash unit for my camera so I had to try it out. I was asked by one of the smaller wineries to take some photos of their wine bottles for an article in Wine Tidings magazine and the flash on the camera was not adequate. This photo is from my toy car collection and uses the new flash and some cardboard for bouncing the light. Not very sophisticated equipment by professional standards but seems to work.

Autumn Leaves

The leaves are changing colour much earlier this year because of the very dry summer. This photo was taken in Unionville.

Getting Ready for Thanksgiving

Canadian Thanksgiving is October 8 this year. This flower shop in Vineland is all decorated for the fall season.

Duck or Mallard?

White Duck

We were visiting friends in Markham yesterday and today. They took us to Toogood Pond in Unionville. During our walk around the pond we saw many ducks, geese, turtles, etc. This white duck must have been quite tame because he allowed me to come quite close to shoot this photo.

On the Flight Path!

We were at Woodbine Racetrack yesterday and it was right on the flightpath for Pearson Airport. This "My Travel" jet was just over our heads.

Modern-day Scarecrows?

These "scarecrows" were in the Vineyards of Calamus Winery. Hopefully, they'll scare the birds off not attract them with the colourful clothes!

Cattail Creek Winey Opens

Another new winery opens in the Niagara Region. Cattail Creek recently opened its tasting room and retail shop in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Niagara now has over 75 wineries and more opening all the time!

2007 "Grape King"

Kevin Watson was chosen as this year's Grape King. Each year, the Grape Growers of Ontario pick someone from a list of nominees of grape growers who have the best vineyards in Ontario.

Old Dairy Farm Sign

This old farm sign is inside the temporary retail outlet of Southbrook Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Southbrook has just moved from Major Mackenzie Road north of Toronto. The winery was on the site of the Don Head Farm which was a dairy farm many years before the winery was located there. Most of the property on Major Mackenzie has been sold to developers and the winery had to move. Bad news for Toronto residents but good news for those of us in Niagara.

Lakeshore Fish Company

The Lakeshore Fish Company is in Port Dover, Ontario. The fishing boats come into shore on a regular basis and unload right at the processing plant.
